WHY I BECAME A WRITER

Funny how this roller-coaster business can tug on someone until it’s either write or die. A bit dramatic, yes, but that’s how most writers feel. Writing is like breathing, or eating.

I started reading at the young age of five and became hooked on words and stories. Being a shy child, I would make up stories to act out, but it wasn’t until Junior High and an English teacher assigned a writing project that I realized how much I loved putting the story to paper. I began writing short stories in which my younger brother was featured as the hero or I’d write a romance featuring me and whatever boy I had a crush on at the time.

When I turned fifteen, I wrote my first “real story” about terrorists taking over a high school. Funny how I have now seen that very plot made into a movie. I couldn’t be stopped after that first “book”. I kept writing, keeping my stories in a notebook, which I unfortunately lost when I married and moved out of state. Then, life happened and I didn’t take up writing again until the age of forty when my children were older and I had time to devote to the art.

In 2007, I published my first cozy mystery, Fudge-Laced Felonies, with Barbour Publishing and haven’t slowed down since. Fifty plus books later, and several genres added to the mix, I have no intentions of stopping this crazy career any time soon. In May of 2013, I left behind the day job and became a full time writer. Scary, but worth every busy minute.

My husband and I now own a small press with over seventy authors on our roster. How do I do it is a question I’m asked over and over. Post it notes and lists! Add that to God’s grace and I can’t see myself slowing down any time soon.

Good Vs. Evil

I’ve always wanted to write a fantasy series linking the fate of humans with the fate of fae. Placing the story in present day New York seemed the best choice. After all, the Big Apple seems to be the hub of our country. Bringing another world into ours allowed me the freedom to introduce many creatures to a detective he thought only existed in storybooks.

There’d also be no battle worth giving up everything for other than the epic battle of Good vs. Evil, Light vs. Dark. Pit a warrior faerie queen, giants, witches, leprechauns, and a handful of humans against vampires and a new breed of demon against each other brings a trilogy that, I hope, leaves the reader eagerly awaiting the next book.

Fairy tales aside, our world is constantly fighting a battle we cannot see. Here, as the sky darkens overhead and evil steps up its game, we see our different races can fight side-by-side to rid the world of darkness and fill it with light.

You’ll find love, courage, redemption, and friendship within the pages of the trilogy, Fate of the Faes.

The Journey Begins

Good Morning Everyone!

I am so excited to welcome you to my Fantasy based website, Other Worlds! This is something I have always wanted to try, and I hope it will be a big success. Ever since I was first published, I’ve been wanting to start a blog that was completely author/writer oriented. But I also knew I wanted this website to be unique. So when I received my contract for my Winter Queen series, I realized what I wanted to do with this promotion based website.

You guessed it. Fantasy worlds!

Other Worlds: Discovering New Worlds One Fantasy Writer at a Time, is all about exploring the incredible realms that have been created from the imaginations of some wonderful authors. If you are a fan of fantasy novels, then this website is definitely for you! Curious about discovering a new author? A new world to explore? Then don’t go anywhere! I hope to introduce you to many, many authors in the years to come. But the excitement doesn’t end there. Because I don’t want this to just be about published authors.

This blog is also for those writers who’ve not received a contract yet. Who do not have any of their works published but are working hard to get there. I hope, through blog posts, interviews, etc. I can be of some help and encouragement to those fantasy authors who are putting their hearts into their novels in the hopes of one day sharing their fantasy tales with the world. And who doesn’t like to discover a new writer? As a reader, before being a writer, I was never more excited then when I discovered a brand new author with an exciting story to share with me.

Now, to give you a little idea of what to expect from Other Worlds, here below is an example of a blog post introducing you to a new world. This post is based off the world I created in my fantasy series:

Nfaros. A land of woods and mountains; of rolling hills as well as stretches of treacherous plains, as dangerous as they are beautiful. Mountains covered in ice, roiling deep in the north with the desire to bring the first winter Nfaros has seen in five years. Shadow Lands, eternally overcast by billowing gray clouds and The Woodlandstrembling with a magic people of the south fear. Rich with prosperous cities and quaint villages, bordered by a vast salt sea that carries ships to the far off lands of Draedin, Molderëin, and the home of the dragon people, Hadroul’s Mountain.

Sunkai, the Mother City, is home to the Sundragons, once revered as the greatest royal family in all the lands. Overthrown by the Kael family, the remaining Sundragons were scattered. Young Mirae found a home in the rich Woodlands among a wild people who dwell in tents beneath the trees and never settle, traveling across all of Nfaros throughout the year. Far away, on the Ice Mountains, beyond the Shadow Lands, Adlae Sundragon discovered her purpose in isolation. But their journey brings them far from the lands they’ve become so familiar with to the brightly Nfaros Seacolored city of Quintaria and deep within the stone city of Kaldon.

Across the sea, steeped in foreign traditions, stands Falshire, the Capital of Draedin. Populated by men in ruffled shirts and women in thin, scanty drapes, Falshire has stood the test of time in one of the hottest regions of the south. Beyond them, stands Hadroul’s Mountain, where the Hadroul's Mountainelusive dragon people dwell, awaiting their savior, the Almaër Dominÿe.

Molderëin. A fierce, wild country. A city built directly from mountains, burning beneath the hottest summer sun in all the land. Ruled by a tyrant, the people have fallen into savagery as they await the return of the Heir to the Molderëin throne.

A Mother City without its Queen. A Mountain without its Mother. A savage land without its Heir.

Welcome to Nfaros.

I hope you enjoyed this little peek! But the fun doesn’t end with posts like this. I also hope to do author interviews and guest posts. I will also feature a book every month on a separate page on the website, along with a quick mention in the latest blog post at the beginning of the month, directing readers to my Featured Book page. Posts like the one above will also feature any type of media you’d like including links to your social media sites, purchase links for your novel, your author bio and author photo. So come tell me about your world! Remember, this blog is about promoting you! Your work, your novel, your world.

I hope to hear from you soon!
